It is a good thing to ask questions. Sometimes people feel afraid to ask their questions. Why is this? Perhaps they think they won’t be listened to. Perhaps they think their questions don’t make much sense to someone else. I would like you who are reading this to think we are having a conversation. We may not know each other yet. I will look at some frequently asked questions here, and perhaps some of them are ones that you are asking. At any rate, I hope they may interest you, and perhaps echo your question. In that way we can be talking to each other. I think your question is important just because it is your question--because you are important. You are made in God’s Image. You are unique…and that is why I am interested in your questions. Jesus says: Seek and you shall find. We will find our answer in Him. I am simply the priest Paul. I will ask your question with you, and together we will try to find an answer that will nourish your heart. To do this, I will draw on the riches of Grace and Truth that have been handed down through the Apostles and are preserved for us in Holy Orthodoxy, just as our Savior promised, until He comes again, for our salvation. That, of course, is my belief! Perhaps you see things differently…We can at least be friends and talk. You are completely free. I would like to share these riches with you out of love, not to manipulate you or force you, but to draw you only by their beauty and to have you share my joy. Believe me, there is something good here. But better still, come and see and know for yourself! There are two ways of asking questions. We can ask just to argue back and dispute. Or we can ask in order to gain knowledge, to explore, to understand better, to become wise. The difference is in our heart. We need to ask with a sincere and pure heart. This is the only way we will find our answers…So we say to God: Open my eyes, and I shall see wondrous things out of Thy Law (Psalm 119: 18). Or again: Show me Thy way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path (Psalm 27:11). If we ask in this second way, Jesus will open our minds to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45) and our joy will be complete. Amen! So be it! Father Paul |
